Trace/Decay an exhibit of sculptures and drawings at Bethel University from February 21- March 24, examines the role of mythology, memory, and cultural shifting.
As Bachelard suggests, the mythologies we attach to spaces and objects are more active than memories, because they are both real and unreal. These mythologies become prominent for us, shaping our understanding of our past and present, how we view our environment, what we value and why. The works in this exhibit seek to explore the relationship between these active mythologies, and the histories and meanings that are discarded as we continually revise our understanding of our world.
